Demonstrations in the 1970s against Malaysian Government policies.

In Wellington there was solidarity with the plight of Malaysian students studying in New Zealand. They ran the risk of prosecution on their return to Malaysia if they had participated in protests here. Meetings were held in the Union Hall to support them and demonstrations were held outside the Maylasian High Commission in 1974 to protest the jailing of a former Canterbury University student Khoo Ee Liam. There was solidarity with the plight of international students in New Zealand, particularly in Wellington. Malaysian students faced the risk of prosecution on their return to Malaysia if they had participated in protests in New Zealand. Demonstrations were held particularly in Wellington with regular marches to the Malaysian High Commission and picketing of diplomatic events.
