A large crowd gathered in the Civic Square on December the 4th 1980 to protest again the then Government’s National Development Bill. This bill had provisions that would override other legislation particularly environmental controls. Speakers included Micheal Fowler (Mayor of Wellington), Sir Guy Powles, Tama te Kapua Poata, Geoff Bertram, John Roberts and Gerald Tuohy (Law Society).
